Filming with Channel 5 "Hitler's Britain"
Part 2
Filming in London
By Uscha. Konig
At
short notice the membership was called upon again to finish the film work for
Lion TV which we had started in Norfolk in June earlier this year. Again, the
filming followed a story about “Hitler’s Britain” and what would have happened
if Britain had been invaded in the early ‘40‘s.
I was asked to do some solo still’s and “ walk on/off roles ” in Oxford town
centre on Saturday afternoon. This was all wrapped up in the space of 90 minutes
and involved me standing in front of scenic/historic buildings around the
college parts of Oxford. This went well until we kept getting stopped by
tourists wanting to have their photographs taken with me and asking what we were
filming for.
On
the Sunday morning it involved the following members, Uscha. Spiedel, Strm.
Böcker, Strm. Schneider, and Gren. Wollmann meeting at the producers house at
6.45 in London. We then continued on a whistle stop tour of the major landmarks
and being photographed and filmed in front of them. The Film Company had laid on
a mini bus for us and this took us from location to location in double time. Our
1st shoot was in a quiet mews area of London in which we had various walk on
parts which included chatting, smoking and taking in the sights. At this point
the met police turned up and were interested in what we were doing at that time
in the morning and why we were dressed as Germans!. Our producer showed them the
appropriate paper work and they went away, still unsure I think of what we were
really doing!.
Anyway,
the rest of the morning went without a hitch and we managed to take in the
following sights: - Houses of Parliament, The Tower of London, Tower Bridge and
Billingsgate fish market. Again, underneath Tower Bridge we were held up by 30
Japanese tourist’s wanting to have their photographs taken with us, and of
course we were only too happy to oblige. The fish market is still quite old in
parts and provided some excellent backdrops for filming. We even managed to put
upon the wall of the fish market a poster declaring ”No entrance without
permission of the Chief in Command of the German Secret Police for Great
Britain” which amused the local market traders no end. Then finally it was back
to the producers house to do some final filming of “arrest scenes” which
involved us bundling a screaming Strm. Böcker down a flight of stairs,
Priceless!. Thus ended another successful days filming and we all look forward
to the finished article on Channel 5 .
